If you have a tougher stain that won’t come out with dish soap, try using baking soda. Mix baking soda with water until it’s a thick gel and let it sit on the stain for a day. Then rinse off the baking soda mixture and try cleaning anything that remains with dish soap and water.
QUARTZ COUNTERTOPS
Since they’re naturally stain-resistant, quartz countertops can often be kept clean by just regularly wiping the counters and cleaning up spills as soon as they happen. Beyond that, though, a mild solution of dish soap and warm water will do, just like with granite countertops. Make sure to not use anything too strong bleach or general-purpose heavy-duty cleaning products should be avoided.
For more thorough cleaning, you can buy cleaning products that are specifically labeled as safe for quartz countertops. A glass cleaner is a viable alternative. Using a quartz cleaning product every month or two will keep your quartz in top shape. After applying it and letting it sit for 15 minutes use a non-abrasive kitchen sponge to remove it.
FURTHER MAINTENANCE
Granite should be resealed every year. The sealer helps by making the granite resistant to stains, so make sure to reseal your granite as needed. Quartz countertops are made with resin to make them naturally stain-resistant and don’t need to be sealed, so regular simple maintenance is all that’s needed.

Both granite and quartz are durable and aesthetically-pleasing options for kitchen countertop materials. Both are similar in appearance and attributes, so how do you decide which material to select when you’re getting new kitchen countertops? There are some key differences that differentiate the two.
As far as composition goes, granite is natural and quartz is engineered. Granite is cut from a stone and then turned into a slab, at which point it can be polished and installed. Quartz, on the other hand, is crushed, ground, and then mixed with resin to become a countertop material. Granite countertops are made from 100% stone, but quartz countertops are a little bit above 90% quartz and 10% additives.
Although both granite and quartz look somewhat similar, the way the materials are obtained gives granite a more natural look while quartz is more readily customized. Because it’s cut from a solid stone, granite is very unique and each cut of granite will be at least a little bit different when it’s turned into a slab because of the stone’s natural patterns and variations. Quartz, on the other hand, can be crafted to have a more uniform look and can also be more easily color-matched due to its engineered nature.
When it comes to cost, don’t worry – both granite and quartz are fairly comparable in price. The differences in price typically come from the countertop material’s design and installation, and in that regard, there’s not a significant gap between granite and quartz.
Because they’re made of hard stone, granite and quartz are very durable. Granite, though, has to be sealed and then later resealed. Quartz doesn’t require the same level of maintenance. Another thing to consider is whether you want a single-handle faucet or something with dual handles, one for hot water and one for cold water. Faucets with one handle are more convenient to operate and clean, but less precise because of the nature of having half of the available precision in adjusting water temperature compared to having two handles. Some faucets also offer a hands-free option in which a motion sensor on the faucet can automatically turn the water on when you come into close proximity.
